The Last Mimzy by Robert Shaye

Shaye, Robert. The Last Mimzy. New Line, 2007. DVD. PG. 97 min. ASIN B000Q66FB6

Plot

Noah and Emma are brother and sister who must go to Whidbey Island with their mother to spend a couple of days with their workaholic father, David Wilder. Their father still does not pay as much attention to them since he is constantly working. While investigating the area they find a box of toys at the beach and bring it home. Emma finds a stuffed rabbit called Mimzy, stones and a box object. They hide their findings from their parents for they will not become suspicious. Mimzy, is able to speak to Emma telepathically and the siblings begin to develop special abilities, becoming geniuses. When Noah presents a magnificent design in the fair of science and technology his father becomes very interested in Noah. His teacher, Larry White and his mystic wife Naomi Schwartz, also become interested in Noah when he draws a mandala. When Noah accidentally assembles the found objects, they thought were toys, he activates a powerful generator creating a blackout in the state. The FBI becomes involved and arrests the family but Emma reveals the importance to send Mimzy back to the future, which they should listen to in order to save everyone's life.

Critical Evaluation

The movie plot line is very interesting but it feels that some scenes could of been cut out of the movie since it felt very long. The beginning and ending are captivating but the middle part does not hold the same attention. The characters are not very emotional so the viewer does not feel any type of attachment to them. The plot is the most interesting part of the film but there are some discrepancies that leave the viewer confused.

Reader's Annotation

Noah and Emma Wilder develop powers when they discover a small box containing strange devices, including a very small metal box.
